United Airlines is beautifully championing inclusivity in the workplace with the exciting expansion of its groundbreaking Special Olympics Service Ambassador (SOSA) program. In a wonderful move that strengthens its commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities, the airline is bringing this unique program to its hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Newark. This expansion will grow the team to 28 dedicated SOSA employees across all seven of United’s U.S. hubs.

The SOSA program is a fantastic, industry-first initiative that provides part-time employment with full benefits to Special Olympics athletes. These inspiring ambassadors offer a warm welcome to customers, assisting them with finding check-in kiosks, bag drop locations, and navigating the airport, enhancing the travel experience for everyone. The program’s expansion was celebrated with the help of NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who praised the dedication and heart of the SOSA team.

Leaders from both United and Special Olympics have highlighted the powerful, positive impact of this partnership. It not only fosters a more inclusive and dynamic workplace but also beautifully shifts perceptions about the incredible capabilities of people with intellectual disabilities. This initiative is a shining example of how diversity and inclusion can strengthen communities and create a more welcoming world, both on the ground and in the skies.
