US officials sitting next to Trump appeared to be slightly uncomfortable by the compliment, as English is the official language of the African country.
Liberia was founded in 1822 by the American Colonization Society with the intention of resettling formerly enslaved African Americans in Africa.
Trump told the leaders of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal that he would like to visit Africa, adding they are unlikely to face any US tariffs.
