
CANE BAY FILMS invites you to an evening of film, history, and cuisine with a screening of the documentary Sugar Pathways, and a talk by the director—award-winning filmmaker and native Virgin Islander, Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz. Accompanying this event will be an enjoyable cultural three-course dinner prepared by her sister, Crucian-Rican Chef Wanda Bermúdez-Belardo, to be held at her new establishment, Mini Mimosas (an extension of J&W Bodega). The menu is inspired by the film’s featured cultural cuisine and will be paired with select wines.

“Sugar Pathways,” a U.S. Congressional award-nominated documentary directed by Bermúdez-Ruiz and narrated by Luna Lauren Vélez (Dexter, Across the Spider-Verse), explores nearly 100 years of Puerto Rican and Virgin Islands families uniting in love and culture. It is a vital piece of Virgin Islands history and identity. Guests will enjoy a three-course cocktail dinner prepared by Bermúdez-Belardo, inspired by family stories from the film.
