Mexico is celebrating a truly fantastic first half of 2025 in its cruise tourism sector. The country warmly welcomed an impressive 5.6 million cruise passengers, marking a delightful 8.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This wonderful surge is supported by 1,639 cruise ship arrivals at Mexican ports between January and June, showing a robust 7.8 percent rise from the previous year.
According to Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, these figures firmly establish Mexico’s position as one of the world’s most attractive cruise destinations. This remarkable growth is not just good fortune, it is the result of strategic enhancements. The strengthening of the National Port System, backed by investments announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, along with strong coordinated efforts across all levels of government, is helping transform this growth into significant economic development and well-being for port communities nationwide.
The busiest and most popular ports contributing to this success include Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo, Ensenada in Baja California, Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, and Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco. Cozumel proudly led the way with 685 cruise arrivals and a staggering 2.4 million passengers, while Mahahual followed with 302 arrivals and 1.2 million passengers. Even Cabo San Lucas saw a strong influx of 134 cruise ships and nearly half a million passengers. Tourism officials are looking forward to continued growth throughout the second half of the year, anticipating further positive impacts on Mexico’s vibrant cruise sector and a sustained boost for local economies across its beautiful coastal regions.
