Putin Boosts Russia’s Military Footprint In Africa With Arms, Artillery | Firstpost Africa | N18G
To expand its military footprint across Africa, Russia is reportedly delivering sophisticated weaponry to conflict zones in the sub-Saharan region. Satellite images accessed by the Associated Press show Russian-made Su-24 fighters at an airbase in Bamako, Mali. Despite sanctions by the West, Russia has reportedly been using cargo ships to send tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery to Africa. Satellite imagery from earlier this year shows Russian-flagged cargo ships in Guinea’s Conakry and Equatorial Guinea’s Bata. Experts say Russia is now deploying its military might and intel services more directly in Africa. This also comes as Russian mercenary group Wagner withdrew from Mali, with Africa Corps taking charge. The Africa Corps is also reportedly recruiting in Russia. Is Putin changing his Africa strategy to expand influence across Africa?
