Africa-China relations reached their peak when, in 2009, China became Africa’s largest trading partner.
The story hasn’t changed much since 2009. We have, however, witnessed an ever-increasing volume of trade and investment volumes between Africa and China.
Despite the expansion of trade between China and Africa, the continent remains one of China’s smaller trading partners, accounting for only around 4% of China’s overall trade. There is significant potential for the continent to significantly grow its exports to China while also reducing its trade deficit.
In this dialogue, we explored how and why there’s the need to reimagine trade and investment partnerships between Africa and China and to unlock the full potential of cooperation.
