20-year-old Itauma, from Chatham, Kent, is not only explosive and powerful, but intelligent and technical too. His feet are clever, always moving so he never presents a still target.
His 10 knockouts have all come within the first two rounds; he even won his pro debut in just 23 seconds. Whyte will be a huge leap up in levels for the southpaw, but he has recently scalped highly-rated Aussie Demsey McKean recently, as well as veteran world title contender, Mariusz Wach.
Now 37, Whyte’s best years are behind him. The Brixton boxer waited over 1,000 days to get his shot at the WBC heavyweight world title, but when it came, he failed to trouble the champion, Tyson Fury, who knocked him in six rounds at Wembley.
The Jamaican-born ‘Body Snatcher’ has victories over Dave Allen, Derek Chisora (twice), Joseph Parker, Oscar Rivas, and Alexander Povetkin.
The south Londoner’s trio of defeats came from Anthony Joshua, Alexander Povetkin, and Tyson Fury, each time knocked out by an uppercut, in rounds five, six, and seven.
Key Factors
Whyte has a wealth of experience behind him at the top level, plus he can bang too. He does possess a jab, but prefers to hook. He can often be seen throwing big, bolo overhand rights.
Itauma is 17 years Whyte’s junior, so has freshness on his side. His chin is relatively unchecked so far, which is what makes this such a risky match-up. Trained by Ben Davison, he is fast and venomous, he strikes quickly and accurately.
Because of this ability, Moses should be able to land on Whyte cleanly and heavily, either by manipulating him into position with his clever, commanding jab, or by striking fast when the older man is opening up to attack.
Prediction
Itauma to win by KO in rounds 1-3 is 9/4 with Bet365
