One Cat’s Encounter with Mimulus Flower Essence

I have a funny story about my Siamese-Ragdoll mix cat named Snookie. That’s him in the photo lounging in my seat. People often want to know if flower essences really work so I like to give them examples of how animals respond to them because the fact that animals don’t know what we’re giving them rules out a placebo effect. This is one of those stories.

Snookie, being half Siamese (and very Siamese in personality), is a bit high-strung. He has lots of energy and equal amounts of sensitivity that manifests, in this case, as a great tendency to anxiety. He is the ultimate scaredy-cat who jumps at every sound. If a truck goes by or there’s thunder in the distance, he dashes under the bed. And when his people are upset, he’s upset, too. He actually tries to make us stop typing if he detects that we’re angry, and he is adamant that we should not be watching certain TV shows. This is part of his nature but lately his anxiety has been steadily ramping up. He seems worried about everything, so I put a few drops of Mimulus flower essence in his food. Mimulus is for worry about everyday experiences, especially if that is made worse by emotional sensitivity.

Snookie was VERY excited about that, by the way. He’s had flower essences before and for the last several weeks, when he sees me taking them, he has been asking me to give him some, too. When he finally saw me bring a bottle over to his dish, he came running over and ate his food right away.

I did this for about three days, not really sure if I saw any difference or not. But then, on the third day, we started joking that it worked too well! He’s been on a tear, doing all sorts of things we don’t want him to do—jumping up on counters, trying to jump up on higher shelves, and leaping onto the tiny rail on our 2nd floor apartment balcony. He suddenly feels very confident to do all kinds of things and has been having a lot of fun. Which means we’ve been rescuing him from trouble too much of the time. A few days ago he was removed from the balcony (which seemed very dangerous to us!) and put in the house with the door closed as punishment. Sensitive boy wants to be around his people almost all the time, but this time HE DID NOT CARE! He immediately hopped into his cat bed, and relaxed there with his feet up in the air, happy as can be. (Something Snookie does not do!)

We’ve decided to stop giving him Mimulus, however. He’s a little over-confident about his balcony rail jumping now! He had to be banished inside the house again. I threw his food with flower essence in it away and, much to his dismay as he watched and waited, I gave him new food without it. We’ll only be using Mimulus again for him on an as-needed basis. 😁

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
