iciHaiti - Port-au-Prince : 234th anniversary of the founding act of Haitian freedom

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the City of Port-au-Prince celebrated the 234th anniversary of Bois-Caïman Day and the Union for Liberty, a historic event held on the night of August 14, 1791, and considered the founding act of the struggle for national independence.

This assembly remains an enduring symbol of the bravery and determination of our ancestors who, braving all dangers, sealed their commitment to the abolition of slavery. Their sacrifice marked the birth of the world’s first free Black republic and the advent of the principles of liberty, equality, and human dignity.

By paying tribute to these heroes, the City of Port-au-Prince reminds us that this legacy is a moral and civic obligation. It is up to us to preserve, with the same determination, the values of social justice, civic equality, national solidarity, and social cohesion.

The City Hall reaffirms its commitment to working in synergy with the population to build a capital and a nation where every citizen fully enjoys the security, respect, and dignity they deserve.

May this celebration remain a constant reminder of the importance of collective action, civic courage, and perseverance in building a free, just, and prosperous homeland, worthy of the legacy left by our ancestors.
