What To Know About The Latest Court Update

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert were present at their July 25 hearing, alongside their attorneys. In their contempt-of-court filings, US Weekly reports they both requested jail time for the violation. However, the outlet notes that Teyana later dropped her incarceration plea.

Her petition claimed that Shumpert has leaked information about their divorce ruling to news outlets. Meanwhile, his petition alleged that she violated their parenting plan and the same prohibition she accused him of violating (talking to the public about the divorce). His legal team entered a March 19, 2025, Instagram video of Teyana Taylor into evidence. For context, the video shows Teyana denying that she ever demanded jail time for Iman. In it, she also accuses him of leaking information about their divorce every time he has a new business venture to promote, and admits to filing a contempt petition. “I’m waiting for ya’ll to show me the proof of where I said ‘Put Iman in jail.’ I never said put Iman in jail,” she claimed at the time.

Teyana Taylor Found In Contempt Of Court, While Iman Shumpert Is Cleared

After the hearing, the judge had to review testimony from third-party witnesses and evidence Shumpert and Taylor submitted. That decision came forward on August 5. The judge reportedly denied Teyana Taylor’s request to find her ex-husband in contempt, citing a lack of sufficient evidence. Additionally, the judge refused her request that Shumpert pay her legal bills.

“It appears Taylor and her counsel failed to engage in even a minimal amount of diligence to determine whether her claim of contempt had any factual support at all before the petition was filed,” the judge said.

On the other hand, the judge found Teyana Taylor willfully violated their divorce agreement by discussing it in the March video. However, it’s unclear whether the court will abide by his request for jail time for his ex. For now, the ‘Gonna Love Me’ singer is responsible for Iman’s legal bills in the case. The judge ordered her to pay him $70,000 in full within two weeks of the court order. Iman Shumpert had argued that she had the funds to do so. In response, the court acknowledged that she’s been in multiple movie projects since the divorce and has a TV series coming up in the fall. That said, the judge ruled that shefailed and refused to produce any evidence to repel such a claim or charge against her.”

Given the nature of the update, neither Iman Shumpert nor Teyana Taylor has spoken about it online.
