First launched in 2023, the original Blossom Portable Light has succeeded in capturing the heart and style of many Original BTC fans. Born from a serendipitous meeting where German designer Fabian Freytag proposed a new, hydro-dipped version of the lamp, the Blossom Portable Light FF Edition launches with a brand-new look. Each unique in their own right, the new edition brings a distinct scheme of materials, beautifully varied in their difference of finish. A glossy bone white decorates the ceramic shade, to be followed by a green metal body, with an organically marble-like hydro-dipped base at the bottom. Cheekily botanical in an endearing way, the imaginative vision of Freytag combined with the meticulous detailing and quality craftsmanship of Original BTC create an enduring and sweet little cordless lighting solution for indoors or out.
Each lamp base undergoes a hydro-dipping process, lovingly made by hand for a one-of-a-kind design. Reflecting Freytag’s love of La Dolce Vita, each one is an organic expression of water, high contrast between white and black glaze creating unique undulations across the surface. Sealed for an enduring finish, the gloss of the base transitions into the body, a metallic green with a soft iridescent finish making the base seem even glossier. As we continue up the body, a flower-shaped shade with the slightest pitch at the bottom, similar to a petal’s edge, makes for a simple yet highly effective look.
“We are thrilled to have Fabian bring his fresh, expressive energy to this special edition Blossom Lamp. The hydro-dipped design brings new life to the original form, while remaining rooted in craftsmanship and quality that define O.BTC,” says Charlie Bowles, Director of Original BTC. “It’s a joyful collectible piece that speaks to the power of creative collaboration and marks an exciting step forward chapter as we continue to broaden our range with even more contemporary offerings.”
Fabian Freytag is a German designer born in Hamburg. Named on the AD100 list, he founded his eponymous studio in 2012, focusing on the transformation of spaces into works of art. With a passion for beautiful spaces, good drinks, and a sense of celebration, his designs aren’t products of think tanks and statistics – it’s of a life well lived.
Original BTC was founded by Peter Bowles in 1990, one of the first to use bone china in lighting. Imparting a golden warm hue, this material proved to lend itself beautifully to lighting, inspiring a decades long investigation into the limits of the material. Their bone china pottery is crafted in Stoke-on-Trent, with metal and glass workshops at their headquarters in Oxfordshire. Keeping processes local ensures a lifetime quality guarantee, and maintains strong relationships with suppliers. Proud of the systems they have engineered, many of the materials in their production processes can either be recycled or repurposed – Original BTC even offers spare parts.
