The AEW Women’s World Championship is still Timeless.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door went down at the O2 Arena in London. This was a night full of big action, including the AEW Women’s World Title.

“Timeless” Toni Storm has been on a roll since recapturing the title. That being said, Athena cashed in her guaranteed title shot to step up in this Forbidden Door matchup.

Athena was walking into this match as the ROH Women’s Champion. Win or lose this match, Athena would still keep that gold around her waist. This match was placed second to last on the night, and fans were more than ready to see it go down.

The O2 Arena was full of chants for Toni Storm as this match got started. Eventually, Athena took control of the match as Storm sold for the challenger. This match also saw Jim Ross leave the commentary table as Bryan Danielson joined them once again, as the WWE Hall of Famer was around for the prior Unified Title match.

The two eventually started trading blows in the middle of the ring, and Athena put Toni Storm down with a headbutt, but it only got a two count out of it. The match continued and Athena proved why she’s been the ROH Women’s Champion for nearly 1,000 days.

Toni Storm nailed a Storm Zero, but she couldn’t pull down the win. Billie Starks tried to get a chair to hit Toni Storm, but then Mina Shirakawa showed up to chase her off. Toni played opossum for a bit, and then got a roll-up for a near fall. Eventually, Toni locked in her chicken wing to get the submission.

The AEW Women’s Title picture is certainly interesting. Only time will tell who holds the title next, but Forbidden Door gave the division an incredible example of what they can bring to the table.
