Manchester United take on Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly at Old Trafford on Saturday. It’s our final pre-season game before the season kicks off next Sunday against Arsenal.
Matthijs de Ligt has given an interview which is printed in the programme and has discussed his personal hopes for his second season at the club, with him believing there’s lots more to come from him.
I feel there’s still a lot more to come. Sometimes me and other football fans forget I’m still 25, and as a centre-back you’re normally in your prime at 28 or 29, so in that way, I’m still quite young.
I’ve been to a lot of places! So, sometimes I don’t feel that way [young] but there’s a lot more to come. Hopefully we can build something together at United to show the world what we’re capable of.
Personally, I’d love to carry on from how I was in March, April – I feel that is the level I could show and should show on a consistent basis. That’s my personal goal, and also to stay fit, that is really important. And then the goal with the team is to really show everybody what it is to play for United, and to get a positive vibe again around the team and the club.
We want to show the fans what United is and that we want to win every game. It’s a nice feeling to start over again, because it gives you a clean slate, and hopefully from the start we can really get these positive vibes back.
