I don’t want to hear any disrespect towards Moises Caicedo at this point, he has proven to me that he is a world class player and one of the best midfielders in world football, without a doubt.
He has consistently put in 8/10 performances for Chelsea now solidly since the start of LAST season. He does a role that is unsung but SO important. If he wasn’t on the pitch, we would concede many more goals, it’s not even a question. He is a goal stopper. He’s got N’Golo Kante, Claude Makelele, and Frank Lampard built into him; he has the attributes of all three.
I think he deserves this praise because of how he goes about his business like he’s just doing his job. He’s very humble and just thrives on making tackles and interceptions. These types of players are what you need to build your team around for success, because forget scoring goals for a moment, these are the actions that win you games.
I can’t believe I’ve seen debates out there recently about how Caicedo isn’t that good or about how much we paid for him – he was worth it. I think that’s pure madness and if people say that then they haven’t been watching his game. Everything he does is vital but it’s done not in the limelight. He’s that hard working player who says there is no way past and ‘if you want to score you’ve got to get past me first’. It’s like having two players in one, an extra man on the field.
For me, he’s done enough now at the age of 23 and about to turn 24 in two months time, to show that he is a world class player. He is playing with maximum quality and solid consistency. He’s helping Chelsea win trophies, and his role is the most important in our team. He’s world class.
