Todd Chrisley is reflecting on son Chase Chrisley receiving treatment.
“I’m not going to ever walk away from one of my kids. I’m not going to walk away from Chase when he’s down, when he’s having an issue,” Todd, 56, told wife Julie Chrisley on the Wednesday, September 17, episode of the “Chrisley Confessions” podcast. “I’m not losing my child to anything.”
Todd admitted that his and Julie’s daughter, Savannah, “gets mad” because she thinks he’s “babying” Chase, 29. (Todd and Julie, 52, share Chase, Savannah, 27 and son Grayson, 19. Todd previously welcomed daughter Lindsie, 35, and son Kyle, 33, with ex-wife Teresa Terry. Todd and Julie also adopted Chloe, 12, from Kyle in 2016.)
“How much tougher does it have to get?” Todd asked, before adding, “In my heart, what I believe is in the best interest of our son is he’s getting the help that he needs. He’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing. He’s following his program. He’s being held accountable. Is there one thing I have not held him accountable for? Have I not called out the bullshit? Have I not said, ‘This is the plan. This is what you will do. If you step out of it, this will be the consequences?’ I’ve done that.”
He continued, “I just don’t have to go report that to his sister. I don’t have to report that to his other siblings. I don’t have to report that to my mother. I have to report that to you because you are his mother.”
When Todd asked Julie whether the couple “are on the same plan” when it comes to Chase, she confirmed and said they could “move on” from the discussion.
“So my son is doing good today, right?” Todd asked, while Julie replied, “Yes, doing good today.”
Chase’s struggles with alcohol were depicted throughout the eight-part docuseries, which ultimately ended with him sharing he was receiving treatment to “handle a lot of trauma” that he thought was “buried.”
“I just thought I could bury it and bury it, and I can’t,” Chase said in The Chrisleys: Back to Reality series finale, which aired via Lifetime on Tuesday, September 16.
While Chase admitted that he was “scared” about entering treatment, Todd reassured his son as they traveled by private plane to an undisclosed center.
“Hoping today is a new beginning. You have to win this battle,” Todd said. “My life story is not going to be that I went to prison for 28 months, yours is not going to be that you have a [substance abuse] problem.”
After dropping Chase off, Todd added, “I thought that going through this with Kyle [Chrisley] would kill me but maybe it was preparation of what I’m going through today. I’m sad I had to bring my son to rehab. I’m sad I’m getting on a plane and he’s not on it with me. Even though we’ve been through a lot, I believe God did not bring us this far to drop us off.”
Todd and Julie were convinced on charges including tax evasion and bank and wife fraud in June 2022. The duo have maintained their innocence. Todd was ultimately sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie was given seven years until they both received pardons from President Donald Trump earlier this year.
