Rwanda, M23 Want to Break-up DR Congo? South Africa, Uganda Join War | From The Frontline |

The Democratic Republic of the Congo or DR Congo has been embroiled in a war-like situation since January 2025. It started when the Rwanda-Backed M23 rebels launched an offensive in Eastern DRC and captured North Kivu’s largest city, Goma. The rebels then marched to South Kivu’s Bukavu and have threatened to capture DR Congo’s capital, Kinshasa. Meanwhile, Rwandan troops have been fighting alongside the M23 rebels. In response, South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Namibia have joined the DR Congo’s side. The United States under President Donald Trump, the United Nations and Congolese President Felix Tshiskedi have accused Rwanda of wanting to “loot” eastern DRC’s minerals and riches. Meanwhile, the African Union has warned that the war could lead to the disintegration of the DR Congo.
