The Routines Collection Turns Daily Tasks Into Elevated Rituals

Daily life is full of small, often overlooked gestures, like setting a table, changing the calendar, or clearing away clutter on a desk. While these moments aren’t monumental in the grand scheme of life, they shape how we experience our days because of how often we repeat them. With the Routines collection, Spain-based design studio MorontaCasanova (MoCa) draws attention to these quiet rituals, designing six objects with a pragmatic objective but a modern day aesthetic.

If you’ve ever bought a desk caddy only to find its compartments don’t quite match your needs, MoCa offers a smarter solution. The OfficeBasket, originally designed as a toolbox for the studio’s own office, is a modular caddy with removable dividers that adapt to whatever you’re storing. A central divider splits the basket into two compartments, while smaller organizers can be repositioned to create wider sections for notebooks or tighter ones for sticky notes. Even the dividers double as pencil or tool holders, making the OfficeBasket endlessly flexible – a thoughtful fix for anyone tired of one-size-fits-all organizers.

A modern lamp sits on top of stacked books, including one titled "dieter rams," on a black tripod stand next to a leafy plant and a concrete wall

The AdjustableLamp keeps things refreshingly simple. Instead of an electronic dimmer, it uses pure mechanics to adjust both brightness and direction. A single knob raises or lowers the light source, which works with any standard socket and bulb. Rather than relying on electronics, the lamp offers a much more satisfying and tactile way to adjust lighting.

Despite its straightforward name, the CandleHolders do more than simply hold candles – they store and display them, too. Available in two different sizes, these stackable boxes can hold four tall taper candles or six tea lights. When it’s time to set the mood, the lid can be used to display the candles as they burn. Equal parts storage and centerpiece, it’s a clever solution for keeping ambiance ready to go, whether you’re at home or on the move.

The ScrewClock wears its construction proudly. Two metal plates sandwich a simple movement, held together by 12 visible screws that double as hour markers. By aligning construction with function, the design turns assembly into both expression and utility.

The BreadBoard leaves no crumb left unturned – or at least, on your counters. Comprised if three parts, the top tray features grooves that lets crumbs fall onto a base with sloped walls for easy sweeping. A matching knife rests neatly in the grooves when not in use, making the entire set as orderly as it is practical.

Finally, the PerpetualCalendar turns time into a daily touchpoint. Four stacked plates create a quiet analog system where the inner two discs rotate independently, guided by embedded magnets, to reveal the day and month. Each day shifts the calendar into a new geometry, creating a graphic snapshot of where you are in the year.

With Routines, MoCa reframes the overlooked moments of daily life – storing, slicing, lighting, keeping time – through objects that are simple, intuitive, and quietly poetic. Each design is pragmatic at its core, yet elevated by clarity of thought and craft. Together, they transform ordinary tasks into rituals, reminding us that life is often made up of the smallest gestures.
