Super Mic: the standout innovation
The headline feature of the Ear (3) is its completely redesigned charging case, which debuts the “Super Mic” functionality. The case now houses two dedicated microphones and a “Talk” button. When pressed, the case itself acts as an external microphone during calls, enabling users to hold it closer to their mouth for improved clarity. According to Nothing, this dramatically enhances background noise suppression for voices, reaching up to 95 dB of reduction.
This innovation is particularly aimed at users taking calls in noisy environments where earbud microphones alone are less effective. It is confirmed to work with standard calls and communication apps like WhatsApp and Zoom, though compatibility with features such as voice message recordings or native smartphone camera video audio still remains uncertain.
Sound upgrades and design refinements
Nothing has also updated the audio profile of the Ear (3). Unlike the more neutral sound signature of earlier models, the new earbuds boost bass performance, powered by new 12 mm drivers, an upgrade from the 11 mm drivers in the Ear (2).
The design philosophy remains instantly recognizable, with refinements to comfort and materials. The earbuds gain discreet metallic accents, while the case integrates a base made from recycled metal, underlining the company’s sustainability commitments.
Battery and availability
Battery life has been slightly improved, now offering up to 5.5 hours of playback with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, surpassing the previous generation’s stamina.
The Nothing Ear (3) are priced at $179 in the U.S. and are available directly from Nothing’s official online store, with wider retail rollout expected soon.
