Golden Sombrero Licensing & Consulting has been named the official business development partner for Uglydoll. This marks a new chapter for the lifestyle character brand as it reintroduces its quirky cast to a global audience.

“Uglydoll is a cultural movement with an incredible history of creativity and fan engagement,” says Bart Silberman, founder and President of Golden Sombrero. “From toy store shelves to art galleries, Uglydoll has always defied convention while building its loyal community.”

Since debuting in 2001, Uglydoll has grown from a cult designer toy into a worldwide phenomenon. The brand has appeared in MoMA, FAO Schwarz, and even as the subject of a Jeopardy! clue, while collaborating with companies such as Coca-Cola and Sanrio. Fans have celebrated its distinct style at Uglycon events across Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, and Seoul, cementing its status as both a pop culture fixture and a lifestyle icon. A 2019 film featured voices from Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Blake Shelton, and Wanda Sykes.

“We don’t carry fad items, and if we do, they burn out especially fast,” Seok-hee Lee, product manager for MoMA Retail told Time in 2006. “Uglydolls are a constant seller. They hit an emotional chord in people.”

Uglydoll is preparing a retail comeback beginning this year with classic best-sellers, fan favorites, and new character launches. Surprise box mini figures will return soon after, followed by a broader lifestyle licensing rollout in 2026. The brand will place a renewed focus on Asia while continuing to engage collectors, fans, and specialty retailers worldwide.

“We’ve long admired [Golden Sombrero’s expertise across the broader licensing world, and equally, their rare understanding of the global lifestyle character brand space,” says David Horvath, Uglydoll co-founder. “They truly get how the cultural energy coming out of Japan and the rest of Asia is reshaping consumer behavior in the U.S. and beyond. It couldn’t be a better time to join forces and build something lasting together.”

Golden Sombrero brings more than two decades of experience in licensing and brand development, with a portfolio that includes Yo Gabba Gabba! and Claynosaurz. The firm will oversee expansion across apparel, collectibles, toys, publishing, lifestyle goods, and entertainment, with an emphasis on strategic partnerships that highlight Uglydoll’s unique humor and creative spirit.
