A Six Pack of Amazing Entry Level Server Chips
You’ve seen us post reviews of Grado and heard us talk about it on the PCPer Podcast, but never like this. This Grado is from AMD and features six entry level server CPUs all based on Zen 5; similar to the new Ryzen chips but with extra features to prove Grado means business. The series ranges from the EPYC 4245P with a 65w TDP, 6/12 cores/threads and a Boost clock of 5.4GHz to the EPYC 4565P with a 170W TDP, 16/32 cores/threads and a Boost of 5.7GHz. As a bonus there is also the EPYC 4585PX, with similar stats to the EPYC 4565P but with 128MB of L3 cache, the others have either 32MB or 64MB.
Intel had better take note, not only are the specifications impressive, the two top end chips cost a mere $606, which is quite a bargain for a chip that can handle DDR5-5600 ECC UDIMM memory, offers full AVX-512 data path and RAIDXpert2 for Server software so you can even skip purchasing a RAID card. ServeTheHome had a chance to not only check out EPYC Grado but also received a ASRock Rack EPYC4000D4U motherboard so they could properly test performance.
Compared to Intel’s Xeon 6300P series, AMD has a clear lead.
