Today kicks off the Memorial Day weekend and marks the unofficial start of summer! The heat has already been intense here in Orlando but I know in other parts of the country pools are re-opening and layers are being shed. It’s a good time of the year, but honestly, aren’t they all? Memorial Day is all about remembering the sacrifice of our brave service men and women (and their families) and many of us do so by donning our red, white, and blue! Last weekend I popped into a few stores so today I’m taking you in the fitting room to check it all out.
Friday Favorites – In the Fitting Room
I have a few favorite places to shop – JCrew Factory, Banana Republic Factory, Loft, and of course Quince. As many times as I have cleaned out my closet I’ve paid close attention to what gets tossed into the donate pile. This awareness has helped me focus on buying better and shopping smarter. JCrew Factory
Now that I have a JCrew Factory in my area I have enjoyed shopping there more. I am most definitely in my dress era and could hardly pass up an opportunity to try these. Ignore the bra strap showing on the first one, it was just too darling to pass up.
This one is regular bra friendly – yay! The ties are not functional – which if I am honest (and I always am) I actually like. There’s a reason God gave me sons and that’s because I cannot tie a bow to save my life.
Banana Republic Factory
Banana Republic Factory has such great quality and the prices are always so good. On this day they were also offering an additional 25% off if used your Gap card.
This cute two piece set is made of a sturdy cotton poplin. The shirt is one of those pieces you can wear all year long and the pull on shorts are comfortable. I decided to try on the sandals too. They were comfy and fit TTS – HOWEVER, this type of shoe is a NO for me. Whenever I take a step there’s a sound of poofing air. As confident as I appear, I am way too insecure and would find myself constantly explaining that it’s my shoes, thank you very much, making that sound. I know most people don’t have this issue but I have a high arch and believe it to be the culprit.
Last year (or the year before) I bought a linen blend polo tee from BRF in both white and black. They are a little too see through for me so it was time for an upgrade. This one is sturdier cotton and I love it, great upgrade.
This navy linen dress is just fabulous! I could not resist it even though it requires a strapless bra. I have already worn it twice!
Loft
There are times I go into Loft and I am in love with the entire store, this was not one of those times, ha!! The problem is that it is SO HOT here already and the clothes in the store are for normal spring weather. I am friendly with the managers in my 2 local Loft stores and they have assured me that Loft is changing that – I sure hope so. Did you know that Loft has acquired Soma, Chico’s, and White House Black Market? Yup, you heard it here.
This top is so cute and so expensive! Even on sale I feel like it’s a lot but it is darling! I tried an XS – sizes were very limited in the store. I think a small would be better. The shorts are standard issue Loft – you an always count on them for a good, basic pair of shorts.
I bought this graphic tee – you’ll see why below! I am not a big graphic tee fan but I needed something with this shade of blue in it and I like this print. Again with the same shorts.
Trying yet another tee – I really liked these wider stripes and of course the the sweet life is a great message!
Here’s why I wanted a graphic tee. The pretty blue suit I got from Walmart a few months ago was begging to be worn casually. This is how I wore it to church on Sunday morning – you can’t see but I am wearing sneakers.
