Gears of War: Reloaded is no longer heading to PlayStation 5 due to “regional ratings restrictions and platform policies.”

In a translated post on Xbox Wire’s Japan branch, it doesn’t reveal much. That said, IGN speculates it’s tied to the game’s chainsaw gun and the sawing mechanic falling under “mutilation.”

“Due to regional ratings restrictions and platform policies, Gears of War: Reloaded will no longer be available for PlayStation 5 in Japan. Players in Japan will continue to play the game through Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Game Pass, and Steam on launch day. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to those in Japan who are waiting for the release of this work.”

CERO, Japan’s rating board is a stickler when it comes to violence and body mutilation, so it does make sense if this was the big thing that failed the board. Now, the reason Gears of War: Reloaded can still go to Xbox Series X|S and PC is because it got rated by the International Age Rating Coalition. Unlike Xbox, though, PlayStation requires CERO’s rating for the PlayStation Store in Japan.
