The series Adolescence is already being praised as some of the greatest acting seen in recent years, with episode 3 being a standout performance from Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty, but was it accurate? Erin Doherty plays Briony, a Clinical Psychologist tasked with getting specific answers from Jamie (played by Owen Cooper) for his trial. Many people have commented on her stoicism in this scene or the way she asks Jamie questions and avoids answering his own questions for her. Some people have been led to think that this is a specific character trait of Briony that Erin Doherty is portraying, but fail to see how her actions in this scene closely mirror real-life clinical practice. So, as a Clinical Psychologist myself I intricately break down what Briony is doing in this scene.
