How Categories Work (The Rules):
1) Your book must be ranked #100,000 or less in order for your category selection to matter (otherwise, you need to focus on selling more books first)
2) Your book must be ranked Top #100 in a category in order to rank as a “bestseller” and in order to get more exposure for your book. If you are NOT ranking in the top 100, choose a different, less competitive category!
3) You can only choose two categories when you upload your book to Amazon
4) You can change your category choices anytime you want by editing your book in KDP at www.kdp.amazon.com
5) The categories you choose when you upload your book may look very different on your Amazon book page – that’s just how Amazon works. Test out different categories until you find the right fit.
6) It’s better to rank in the Top 20 of a smaller category than in 81-100 in a larger category because most readers browse the Top 20 books in a category due to the way Amazon sets up category pages.
7) Paid sales and free downloads are in separate bestseller rankings – the Paid and Free rankings. Paid sales don’t count for free rankings and free downloads don’t count for Paid rankings.
