Rey Mysterio’s legendary mask collection is even bigger than fans expected—and the WWE Hall of Famer admits even he can’t keep track anymore.

During his appearance on LA PLATICA, Mysterio opened up about the deep meaning behind his signature mask design and revealed that he’s sitting on a stash of over 500 masks, with the real total possibly being much higher.

When asked how many masks he owns after decades in the business, Rey admitted the number got away from him a long time ago.

“I was just asked that question maybe two days ago… I’ve lost count. She [Sarah from Lucha Libre Español] goes, ‘You think a thousand?’ I said, ‘I think at one point I had a thousand, but I’ve given so many away when I shouldn’t have.’”

Rey explained that his generosity over the years—giving away masks to fans and other wrestlers—has chipped away at his collection.

“A lot of the ones I wrestled with during WCW times… I should have been more passionate and taken care of my stuff. But anyways, there’s love to the fans. But I actually gave a lot to other wrestlers that would ask me for it.”

Despite all the giveaways, Rey estimates he still owns more than 500 masks, each carrying a personal and cultural significance.

“I probably have a little bit over 500 [masks] now.”

Mysterio also shared that his iconic mask design—featuring falcons, a cross, and an Aztec calendar—represents not only his aerial wrestling style but also his faith and heritage. And while the look may evolve for special occasions, those core symbols have stayed consistent throughout his entire career.

The mask isn’t just gear for Rey—it’s his family legacy, a symbol of Lucha Libre, and a reminder of where he came from.
