Puerto Rican filmmaker and visual artist Darlien Morales presents her debut exhibition— “Susurros del océano” [Ocean Whispers: A Sensory and Healing Journey]— a sensorial tribute to Puerto Rico’s oceans, opening today, June 26, 2025, at 5:00 pm, at Saffra Cowork. Free and open to the public, “the exhibition invites a profound experience of marine contemplation that intertwines art, memory, and ecology.” Saffra Cowork is located at 1055 Marginal Kennedy, San Juan, Puerto Rico). Titled Sensory Whispers, this first of three activations marks the beginning of an artistic journey that seeks to capture the silent wisdom of the ocean. With a vision forged over more than a decade as an underwater filmmaker and certified Dive Master, Morales offers images that go beyond their visual impact: “Each image is a whisper of the sea—sometimes gentle, sometimes urgent—that invites us to look inward and reconnect with what sustains us,” the artist explained.
The collection, entitled “Whispers of the Ocean,” comprises eight limited-edition works created during the pandemic. These photographs, accompanied by personal reflections, were selected from countless dives taken off different coasts of Puerto Rico, from remote locations to intimate corners of her everyday environment.
Morales’s purpose goes beyond the aesthetic. A portion of the proceeds generated will be donated to the Marine Environment Society [Sociedad Ambiente Marino (SAM)], an organization with nearly 25 years of experience dedicated to restoring coral reefs on the island. “I felt it was important to support SAM, as they were one of the first organizations to trust me to tell stories about the sea,” said Morales, referring to her collaboration with the organization on her thesis short film, Beneath Paradise.
Frances Candelas, president of SAM’s board of directors, highlighted the importance of initiatives like this: “What happens in marine environments isn’t always visible to the naked eye. That’s why we value educational activities in and out of the water. These experiences are possible thanks to collaborations like Darlien Morales’s.”
