Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve referral bonuses

Chase just made it more lucrative to refer your friends to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees)

If you’re an existing Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, you can earn 15,000 bonus points for every accepted applicant — up to 100,000 points total from referral bonuses in a calendar year. Those points are worth $308 per approved applicant, based on TPG’s July 2025 valuations.

Chase has streamlined the referral process, now offering a consolidated page on both its website and its mobile app that allows you to generate referral links for all eligible Chase credit cards in one place. All you need to do is follow this link and log in to start creating referral links.

If you hold more than one Chase credit card, simply go to the drop-down list on the top left and select which card you’d like to generate a referral for.

Chase has also introduced some restrictions on an existing cardholder’s ability to earn referrals, but more on that later.

High welcome offers for new Sapphire cardholders

New cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred can earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

With the Chase Sapphire Reserve, new cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus points and a $500 Chase Travel℠ credit after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. Keep in mind that the $500 Chase Travel credit must be used during the first transaction, and any leftover amount will be forfeited.

According to TPG’s July 2025 valuations, these welcome bonuses are worth $1,538 and up to $2,550 (including the Chase Travel credit), respectively.

Beyond the welcome bonus, there is incredible long-term value in having either of these cards.

The $95-per-year Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is one of the best — if not the best — travel rewards cards for beginners and experts alike, offering bonus points on broadly defined categories like travel and dining to help you book your next trip faster.

As for the more premium Chase Sapphire Reserve, it provides more travel-related perks, including a flexible $300 travel credit, a $500 The Edit by Chase Travel credit (up to $250 in statement credits biannually, minimum two-night stay required), a $300 dining credit for Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables (up to $150 in statement credits biannually), a $300 annual statement credit for StubHub or Viagogo purchases through 12/31/27 (up to $150 biannually, activation required), a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee credit, Priority Pass lounge access and much more.

With generous earning rates and the ability to redeem some of the most valuable points around, these cards can be keepers for the long haul. If you think one of them would be a good fit for your friends and family, be sure to send them your referral link to nab up to 100,000 extra Chase Ultimate Rewards points, but with a caveat.

Sapphire referral restrictions

Found within the terms and conditions of Chase’s Refer-a-friend is the following restriction:

You can receive 15,000 bonus points for each friend you refer through this Refer-A-Friend offer (up to 7), who is approved for the card. Maximum bonus points accumulation for this offer is 100,000 bonus points. If 10 or more of your friends use the referral URL within a month to apply, at Chase’s discretion you may not receive any bonus points for the friends who apply that month and are approved for the card.

Specifically, Chase mentions that if 10 or more friends use your referral link within a month, Chase, at their discretion, may not award you any bonus referral points. This is an interesting development because an existing cardholder can only earn 100,000 bonus points, which means that at most you’ll earn full bonus points from six referrals and partial bonus points up to the seventh.

I don’t see this being an issue for most cardholders, but it may be a way for Chase to limit individuals who would post their referrals online in the hopes of generating bonus miles quickly and easily.

Bottom line

Chase has increased the amount of points you can earn per individual Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve referral to 15,000 points instead of 10,000 points. Chase gives you the ability to earn 100,000 bonus points from referrals, including a partial bonus, therefore you can make up to seven referrals.

Just keep in mind that if 10 or more people apply for a card using your link, Chase may allow you to not earn any bonus miles.
