Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN) reports that the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) and the Cuban Cinematheque announced the program for the 9th Summer Film Festival and the 4th edition of the international Orizzonti exhibition. The festival will run until July 13, 2025, in selected movie theaters in Cuba. As Radio Surco writes, “Among the novelties is the big-screen return of Juan Padrón’s Vampiros en La Habana (1985), a screening was made possible through the archives of Spain’s RTVE Corporation in Madrid.

ICAIC president Alexis Triana Hernández remarked that the Festival is also designed to salute the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Animation Studios and Cinematheque and the centennial of [former ICAIC president] Alfredo Guevara, and referred to the resumption of screenings in neighborhoods across the country despite the current problems with electric power.

Esther Hirzel, director of Animados ICAIC, announced the celebration of the institution’s anniversary with the premiere of more than 30 short films and animation workshops for all ages with a program that includes a tribute to the renowned Cuban director Mario Rivas, who at 86 is still working and creating new characters.

The 9th Summer Film Festival also includes a cycle of Indian cinema, an anthology of Italian movies, and a selection of French films.

Antonio Urrata, general coordinator of the Orizzonti: Italy-Cuba Festival, said that there will be a presentation of documentaries that pay tribute to iconic figures of Italian cinema, such as Marcello Mastroianni, Federico Fellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Anna Magnani, among others.
