Samsung’s latest Galaxy Unpacked event ended without any mention of its much-anticipated trifold smartphone. But fans shouldn’t lose hope. The device is still in the works, and it will arrive before the end of the year.
Samsung’s Trifold Phone Confirmed for 2025 Launch
TM Roh, head of Samsung’s Device Experience division, confirmed the news in a recent interview with The Korea Times. “I expect we will be able to launch the trifold phone within this year,” Roh said. However, the official name of the device is still not official. It has been referred to in rumors as the Galaxy G Fold, but that may change.
“We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability,” Roh added. “As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”
Roh wasn’t the only executive to speak on the matter. According to Android Authority, another unnamed Samsung executive said the company already has a working trifold prototype. “We’ve had a trifold for some time, designed and everything,” the executive said. “So it’s not a new concept to us.”
However, the executive also pointed out a challenge. The company needs to decide whether the new form factor serves a clear purpose. “What we’re debating is the viability. When I say viability, is there really a demand for this form factor?” they asked.
Trifold Smartphone from Samsung to Debut by End of Year
Samsung first teased its trifold concept earlier this year. The device appeared briefly during the January Unpacked event and was later spotted in software animation files for One UI 8. Many expected an official reveal at this week’s event, where Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Watch 8 series. But the trifold was nowhere to be seen.
For now, Huawei’s Mate X Triple (Mate XT) remains the only trifold smartphone available on the market. Samsung seems to be taking a cautious approach, aiming to refine the design and ensure it meets real user needs before launch.
With confirmation that it’s on track for a 2025 release, the trifold phone may soon become Samsung’s next big innovation in foldable tech. Users will have to wait just a little longer to see how the company plans to push boundaries in smartphone design once again.
