Burkina Faso and Russia Deal for Electronuclear Program | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Burkina Faso has signed a landmark nuclear cooperation agreement with Russia, marking a major step in its bid to address chronic energy shortages. Under the deal, Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom will help build nuclear power plants, research reactors, and provide support across the nuclear fuel cycle. Energy Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba called it the final stage of a broader partnership with Moscow. With one of the world’s lowest electricity access rates, Burkina Faso sees nuclear energy as key to diversifying its power sources. The move also deepens Russia’s growing strategic presence in Africa, particularly among military-led governments.
