Apple’s core iPhone 17 is expected to arrive with a new color palette. Here’s what the new model should look like, when it launches in September.
While the rumor mill is pretty certain about what the next iPhone models will look like, there’s still some debate about the colors Apple will use.
With under two months before the introduction, the rumors and speculation about colors are starting to become more intense.
Using the more prevalent and believable rumors as a guide, AppleInsider has created new renders of the iPhone 17 to help guide you on which color to order at launch.
Five or Six options
The iPhone 17 will be available in a variety of colors, though this depends on the source of the leaks.
For example, Sonny Dickson reported on July 14 that the iPhone 17 will ship in Black, Grey, Silver, Light Blue, Light Green, and Light Purple. However, another leaker by the name of yeux1122 said on July 11 that it would be Black, Blue, Green, Purple, and Silver.

The six-color list was backed up somewhat by sources of MacWorld on July 16, who said the iPhone 16 will have the same Black and White options as the iPhone 16. However, it would also have a Steel Grey option (Pantone 18-40050TPG), as well as Green (Pantone 2282 U), Purple (Pantone 530 U), and Light Blue (Pantone 658 U).
The Green and Purple colors are interesting, as they were flagged as potential shades by leaker Majin Bu in June. However, Bu added that only one color was likely to make the final cut for release.
The inclusion of light blue in the list is interesting, considering original claims about the color didn’t involve the iPhone 17 at all. Majin Bu said in April that Apple will include a “YuangFeng Blue” or “Sky Blue” colorway, but as an exclusive color for the iPhone 17 Pro.

After other leakers brought up color rumors, including the light blue use on the iPhone 17 Air, Bu went back on their claim about the Pro model. However, Bu didn’t say anything about a light blue iPhone 17 specifically in their reporting.
More than just color
While color is an immediately visible and important element of the iPhone 17, there are many changes on the way for the model.
First, there is the speculation of the display, with a change of materials making the screens brighter. There has also been some mention of the iPhone 17 finally getting ProMotion, the Pro model’s variable refresh rate feature.
In terms of actual camera changes, there have been discussions about the iPhone 17 getting a new 24MP front-facing camera, instead of using a 12MP version in the iPhone 16. The cameras on the back don’t seem to be changing this time, unlike the whole Pro model bump situation.
Current speculation is that the iPhone 17 will be the only one using the A19 chip, with the Pro and Air models use the A19 Pro. Memory is also expected to be 8GB for the iPhone 17 and 12GB for the Pro and Pro Max models.
