This post is by Jeanne Mara (House of Nehesi Publishers) who shares that writer, poet, and leading St. Martin marine biologist / environmentalist Tadzio Bervoets will return to U.S. television screens (Discovery Channel) on July 26, at 8:00pm (EST). Another Caribbean-related program, “Florida’s Death Beach,” streams tonight, July 25, at 9:00pm (EST).[See the full schedule of Shark Week programming at Forbes]. Mara writes:

Viewers in St. Martin and the wider Caribbean with access to the Discovery Channel can catch Bervoets on the Shark Week special “Attack of the Devil Shark,” airing Saturday, July 26, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

The episode, filmed partly on the Saba Bank, explores the myths and realities surrounding tiger sharks — often called “devil sharks” in the Caribbean — blending science, cultural storytelling, and marine conservation.

The episode follows Bervoets, marine scientist Dr. Austin Gallagher, and journalist Kinga Philipps, as they investigate reports of unusually large tiger sharks around Saba and speak with the island’s fishers about generations-old stories of the dangerous sharks.

Bervoets is also considered an influential regional environmentalist. His ongoing work in science communication and conservation brings much-needed visibility to the challenges and opportunities facing small island marine environments, helping shift public perception and policymaking.

Bervoets was first featured on Shark Week in July 2016, during the height of a Save Our Sharks campaign in the region.
