Remember back in November when fans caught wind of Tencent’s obvious Horizon rip-off, Light of Motiram? Well, despite it originally passing the bar to release on PS5, it’s now the center of a lawsuit Sony has thrown at Tencent.
Reuters reports Sony is going after Tencent in California court for copyright and trademark infringement, calling the game a “slavish clone” and asserting the game copies features from Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series and could lead to confusion. Sony is seeking monetary damages and for the Chinese developer to not release the game.
Interestingly, the report also cites that Tencent had attempted to get their own Horizon project greenlit, only for it to go belly up, and not long after, Light of Motiram was announced. Now, we can’t say this development is too shocking, but it was surprising it took this long for Sony to catch wind of it, considering its ties with such a high-profile publisher.
