Earlier this year, Tony Khan announced the creation of the ROH Women’s Pure Championship for the Ring of Honor women’s division. A tournament was announced to crown the inaugural champion but now it appears AEW might have dropped plans for the title.

According to a report by Fightful Select, people backstage have stated that they haven’t heard any recent updates when it comes to the ROH Women’s Pure Title.

“Those we spoke to backstage haven’t heard developments on the ROH Women’s Pure Title of late.”

The champion was supposed to be decided through a sixteen-woman single-elimination tournament. Originally, the inaugural title match was scheduled for Supercard of Honor, but it was removed from the event due to timing issues.

On the April 24 episode of ROH on HonorClub, it was revealed that Queen Aminata and Serena Deeb would compete in the first round. Other confirmed participants included Deonna Purrazzo, Taya Valkyrie, and Leila Grey. On May 23, 2025, Billie Starkz was also announced as part of the tournament lineup.

However, it’s been months since the tournament was announced and now it’s more than evident that the company might have dropped plans for the title entirely.

If plans for the ROH Women’s Pure Championship are really dropped, it’s bad news for fans who wanted more opportunities for the women’s division. The tournament’s first lineup looked promising for building a strong and respected new title but without any updates, no one knows what will happen next.

Do you think ROH should move forward with the Women’s Pure Championship? Sound off in the comments.
