AEW Dynamite Results (8/20/2025): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with Excalibur and Tony Schiavone welcoming us as “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson makes his way down to the ring to join commentary.

Will Ospreay’s music then hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Ospreay starts off by thanking the fans for their warm welcome, then says he can always count on Glasgow and recalls the first time he wrestled there. Ospreay then says he hates to let the fans down because he has grown up in front of all of them, then thanks them for supporting him over the years.

Ospreay then says he thought he was invincible until he was told last week that he wasn’t cleared for action at Forbidden Door because of what The Death Riders have done to him. Ospreay then says he knows he is going to be walking down a road that other wrestlers have not come back from, but he is still competing in the Lights Out Steel Cage Match on Sunday since it’s an unsanctioned match by nature. Ospreay then says he is aware of the risks, but the United Kingdom means a lot to him and he is going to be the standard for AEW. Ospreay then says even if there’s a small chance he can’t be Will Ospreay after Sunday, he is going to leave it all in the ring. Ospreay then says he’ll enter the cage with four good friends of his to tear apart The Death Riders. Ospreay then says he’ll take a pound of flesh before Moxley can even scalpel him.

Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir then make their way down to the ring. Moxley then stares down Ospreay as Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta join Moxley. Ospreay then tells Moxley that he is coming for him on Sunday and if he wants to come for him tonight, then he should send his boys after him. “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight and Hiroshi Tanahashi then come to Ospreay’s aid and the bell rings for the first match of the night.

Tanahashi then recovers and takes Yuta down. Bailey is then tagged in. He then nails Yuta with a big ax kick. Bailey then hits a shooting star press and covers Yuta for only a two count. Castagnoli is then tagged in and he takes Bailey down and scoops him up and slams him down. Castagnoli then hits Bailey in the left ear. Ospreay then comes out from the back and picks up Shafir and takes her to the backstage area.

After the match, The Death Riders and War Dogs beat down JetSpeed and Tanahashi in the ring. Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson then blindside Ospreay from behind, but Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly come to Ospreay’s aid and brawl with him to the back. Assuming Shafir is in the body bag, The Death Riders unzip it only to find that it’s actually Darby Allin inside. The Opps then run down to the ring as everyone continues brawling with one another. Allin then delivers one of the entrance tunnels with a Coffin Drop to nail The Death Riders and War Dogs in the crowd as they brawl there with The Opps.

Commentary then highlights the AEW World Title Match coming up this Sunday and Forbidden Door and that leads us to a video package.

Tony Schiavone then introduces Adam Copeland and Christian Cage and they make their way down to the ring. Cage starts off by telling Glasgow to sit down and shut their mouths as he conducts his business, but Copeland grabs the microphone from him and questions what he’s doing. Cage then says he’s still being the same bad guy that he was, but the thing he’s learned over the years is that sometimes you need that bad guy.

Cage then says at AEW All In: Texas, Copeland told him to go find himself. Cage then says he’s taken some time to do that and he’s found himself. Cage then says he’s found that he doesn’t need to change a thing because he’s perfect just the way that he is. Cage then says people might be wondering if he and Copeland are on the same page. Cage then says they aren’t, but they’re at least writing in the same book at this point in time. Cage then says he knew people were hoping for a happy, bubbly reunion between himself and Copeland, but it’s a reunion out of necessity. Cage then says Copeland has agreed to help him with Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian as long as he helps him deal with FTR and while he knows that his word hasn’t meant much to Copeland lately, the current version of him will be the best tag team partner he’s ever had.

Cage then extends his hand to Copeland and Copeland shakes it. Sabian’s voice then cuts off the two men and he appears alongside Mother Wayne. Sabian says Copeland and Cage are pathetic and Mother Wayne asks the people who they are to boo herself and Sabian. Nick then appears on the big screen and says he wasn’t too far behind Cage last Wednesday. Nick then says Cage hit the ring with Spike The Bat and while he didn’t take his head off, he broke his foot. Nick then says if he showed up at Forbidden Door, he’ll turn a reunion into a quick farewell. Nick then tells Cage that he’s always one step ahead of him.

A video then begins playing, showing Killswitch being brought back from the dead on a medical table. He then makes his down way to the ring, but Cage sees Sabian sneak up on him as Killswitch nails Copeland. He then stares down Cage in the ring and looks to leave, but turns back around and chokeslams both Copeland and Christian. Killswitch is then confirmed as the replacement partner for Forbidden Door.

Mark Briscoe is then shown in the backstage area and he is looking for MJF and promises to kill him.

We then head to the back, where Ricochet and the Gates of Agony are cutting a promo. MJF then shows up and says his enemy is looking for him. MJF then says he is looking for help. Ricochet then says he has a deal and they tell the camera man to get out.
