Anthony Joshua won’t fight until 2026, according to Eddie Hearn
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced that Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) is not waiting for Jake Paul: “It’s very likely that AJ will fight [in] January or February now, probably against someone else.”
AJ was supposedly in talks with YouTuber Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) about a potential fight, but instead ‘The Problem Child’ just announced he is having an exhibition bout with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, who is five-stone lighter.
The unlikely pair are due to clash in Atlanta on November 15, live on Netflix.
Joshua’s trainer had initially shut down talks of a fight between the two-time world heavyweight champion and novice cruiserweight, Paul, who has only fought one active professional boxer in his 13-fight career – and lost – Tommy Fury.
Davison said, “I don’t like that all,” when replying to SecondsOut about his heavyweight charge fighting Jake Paul.
“First and foremost, how can you even talk about that? Two; where’s the safety aspect in boxing? Do you know what I mean, that is a serious risk with something going wrong.”
In the meantime, Joshua is let without an opponent or fight date this year, as originally he was being lined up for a ring return around November time, following an adequate rest period after shoulder surgery earlier this year.
