In a class all their own (only due to annual revenue) is Purina and Mars.
Nestle Purina: $22.4 billion 2024 revenue.
Mars Petcare: $22 billion 2024 revenue.
The next closest pet food manufacturer was Hill’s Pet Nutrition with 2024 annual revenue of $4.4 billion.

Why is it that Purina and Mars earned 5 times the revenue in 2024 than their nearest competitor Hill’s?
It could be because they sell more individual pet food brands/products than all the other competitors.
From the Purina website, the company sells more than 900 different pet products.
Hill’s Pet Food on the other hand is a much smaller manufacturer, (according to PetFoodIndustry.com) selling “more than 300 different pet products“.
Purina owns 23 different pet food manufacturing facilities in the US. In comparison, Hill’s owns 4 different pet food manufacturing facilities in the US.
Both companies sell feed grade pet foods.
The good news is that two human grade pet food manufacturers made PetFoodIndustry.com’s top 45 revenue list; Honest Kitchen Pet Food and JustFoodforDogs. (Let’s hope we see more human grade manufacturers included for 2025.)
