Camera Island Debate
The main goal of Lu’s demo was to address concerns that Xiaomi had copied Apple’s camera island design. He argued that the two designs are very different. Still, many have pointed out that if you ignore the Xiaomi’s rear screen within the island, the difference isn’t huge.
Xiaomi claims the design was inspired by the Mi 11 Ultra from 2021. The company also denied skipping the “16” branding just to match Apple’s numbering system, though the addition of its own “Pro Max” model doesn’t help that argument.

Pricing and Market Strategy
The Xiaomi 17 Pro will be priced between CNY 5,000 and CNY 6,000 ($700–$850), while the Pro Max will cost CNY 6,000 to CNY 7,000 ($850–$1,000). These are China-only prices, and international versions—if released—will likely carry a higher price tag.
Rear Screen for Extra Features

One of the most unique aspects of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is its rear display. This small screen can handle calls, control music, show travel details, countdown timers, and even act as a full camera viewfinder. That last feature allows users to take high-quality selfies with the rear cameras, a functionality similar to the cover displays on foldable flip phones.
With a new design, flagship hardware, and exclusive use of Qualcomm’s next-gen chip, the Xiaomi 17 series looks set to make a bold statement in the premium smartphone market.
